Founded in 1988, Wingspan grew out of informal youth support groups that were operated out of community members' homes during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Wingspan has a strong commitment to providing high quality youth programming to people aged 13 to 23, and we are in the process of developing and expanding our youth services.
We work very closely with QueerVoice in all of our youth programming. QueerVoice is a Tucson-based HIV/AIDS prevention and education program targeted at LGBT youth that functions as a collaboration between Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation, Pima County Health Department, and Wingspan.

We have a weekly discussion group for youth who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or who are questioning their sexuality. The group provides a safe place for youth to discuss issues about sexual identity and to express feelings, thoughts, needs, and concerns about any part of their lives. Meets every Saturday from 3:00 to 4:30 pm at Wingspan.
Wingspan has a CyberCenter where volunteers can provide assistance with homework and coursework, high school equivalency exams, college preparation and planning, and job skills like resume writing and interviewing. Contact Sarah to set up an appointment at 520-620-6245 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Wingspan and QueerVoice host leadership development workshops and retreats for youth. These sessions are designed to promote skill development so that youth can be more actively involved in their communities.
The QV Lounge is a drop-in center that is open Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. It is a safe hangout space for youth (23 and under) and includes a mini-library, computer stations, and youth art exhibits.
Wingspan and QueerVoice provide support to existing Gay/Straight Alliances (GSAs) and assist students in establishing new GSAs in their secondary schools. We also do presentations in classrooms and trainings with social service providers to educate them about LGBT issues.
We offer Support to LGBT Homeless and Near-Homeless Youth, including expanded drop-in hours at the Lounge, street outreach, referrals to social service agencies, and allocation of emergency funds.
Free and anonymous HIV Testing is offered both at Wingspan and the QV Lounge at least twice a month.
Safer Sex Workshops are offered monthly at the QV Lounge.
We have frequent Social Activities such as Volunteer Night, Open Mic, Queer Prom, Club QV, Mr. and Miss Gay Teen Tucson Pageant, Movie Night, Café Chat, and GRRRLS Night.
If we can't help, we know who can! Referrals to queer-friendly services are provided.
